The Jewish Chronicle (2008-present)

Web reporter for theJC.com, writing all breaking news for the web, web features and managing blogs, galleries and video. Before joining the JC full time I had regular shifts on the newsdesk and worked as a  freelance reporter.  Current onlime projects include a ‘Make a minyan’ area for the site, hyperlocal Jewish community news sites and expanding social networking operations via an email newsletter, Facebook and Twitter.

The Daily Mirror (2008) Summer internship on the news desk which included court reporting and a stake-out with paparazzi photographers.

BBC Radio Five Live (2006) Production assistant on Brief Lives and assisted on other programmes for Radio Five Live and Radio Four, including The Money Show and Crossing Continents.

BBC 2 (2006) I worked on the BBC 2 programme Bodyshock, a documentary on body dismorphia disorder during a summer internship at the BBC

REGIONAL DAILIES

Yorkshire Evening Post (2009)  Easter placement from Cardiff. Extensive work on the multimedia desk, shooting and editing web video packages. Pitched numerous off-diary stories, organised photo shoots and attended an industrial tribunal.

South Wales Argus (2009) Weekend shifts reporting for Newport’s daily paper while studying at Cardiff School of Journalism.

Nottingham Evening Post (2008) Multimedia reporter during the summer after leaving university including a front page exclusive, and regular contributor throughout university in Nottingham.

BBC Radio Nottingham (2008) Invited to co-present a one-off programme on BBC Radio breakfast show due to my position as Deputy Editor of University of Nottingham’s student magazine Impact.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus (2008) Weekly ‘Voice of Youth’ column and work experience on the newsdesk.

Yorkshire Post (2006) Work experience on the features desk including co-ordinating fashion pages.

Runner-up for Guardian Student Media Awards ‘Best Magazine’ and commended for “particularly strong news section” the year I was News Editor.

At the Impact Awards 2007 I won ‘Best Section’ for my editorship of the News section and ‘Best Feature’ for investigative feature into sex discrimination and homophobia within Nottingham University’s Christian Union.

Three Weeks@ the Edinburgh Fringe festival (2008)

Reviewed over 30 shows at Edinburgh Fringe’s most respected review and features paper and invited to return the following year.

SKILLS

•    Journalism Skills: NCTJ 100 wpm shorthand. Experienced and knowledgeable in all areas of media law, court reporting, local and national government administration, and NCTJ qualified by June 2009.
•    Language Skills: Confident German and conversational French. I also can read written Hebrew. I am teaching myself basic spoken Japanese. So far I can say ‘hello’, ‘goodbye’, ‘please’, thank you’, ‘orange juice’ and ‘telephone card’.
•    Computer Skills: European Computer Driving License and a detailed general knowledge of both Windows and Mac Office software. Confident sub-editor and experienced in use of Quark and Photoshop and in headline writing.
•    Online Skills: Online Journalism devotee and UGC enthusiast, with in-depth experience of CMS, video and audio editing, podcasting, blogging, Mento, de.licio.us, twitter, Google mapping, Sprout and Dipity and some HTML.
